Fresh marjoram leaves on the plant.
What It Is
Marjoram is a tender Mediterranean herb in the oregano family, valued for a sweeter and more delicate profile than oregano.
Flavor & Aroma
Warm, floral, lightly piney, and gently citrusy, with less bitterness than oregano.
How to Use It
Use it with beans, potatoes, tomatoes, mushrooms, poultry, pork, sausages, and slow-cooked vegetables. Add fresh marjoram near the end to preserve its perfume.
Buying & Storage
Choose vivid green leaves with no dark wet spots. Refrigerate fresh sprigs loosely wrapped; keep dried marjoram airtight away from heat and light.
Chef's Notes
Marjoram is most useful when you want herbal depth without the sharper edge of oregano.
